Euphoria was renewed for season 3 before season 2 even finished airing. In fact, season 2 was so popular that it had more than double the viewers of season 1 with ratings rising weekly with each episode.

There's no denying that Euphoria is one of the biggest shows on TV right now. From the star-studded cast (Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi etc.) to the shocking moments (there was a lot of penis in season 1), people can't get enough of the series. Not to mention, it also boasts an iconic soundtrack featuring songs by the likes of Beyoncé and Orville Peck.

Naturally, fans are already desperate to see more after the season 2 finale. With that in mind, here's everything you need to know about Euphoria season 3, including the release date, cast, spoilers, trailers and news about the future of the series.

Will there be a Euphoria season 3 on HBO?

Yes! On February 4th, HBO revealed that Euphoria season 3 is in the works. Taking to the official Euphoria Instagram page, the network shared a video announcement with the caption: "#EUPHORIA has been renewed for season 3." The exciting news came halfway through season 2 airing and was likely due to Euphoria doubling its viewership with its second season.

In a statement via The Hollywood Reporter, Francesca Orsi, HBO's Executive VP of Programming said: "Sam, Zendaya, and the entire cast and crew of Euphoria have taken season two to extraordinary heights, challenging narrative convention and form, while maintaining its heart. We couldn’t be more honored to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into season three."

We imagine that there will be eight episodes in season 3 just like seasons 1 and 2. However, just like in 2020/2021, there could be some character specials that arrive before season 3 starts airing too.

When is the Euphoria season 3 release date?

As it stands, we don't know for sure when Euphoria season 3 will air. However, ahead of the season 2 finale airing, Zendaya liked a fan tweet that said: "tomorrow really is the last episode of euphoria until 2024 huh :(". In other words, it appears that we will have to wait two years for the show to return.

As it stands, it's unclear exactly why filming will take so long but it is likely due to Zendaya and the rest of the cast's busy filming schedule outside of the show. Zendaya is filming Dune: Part Two right now alongside various other movies.

Euphoria season 2 aired two and half years after season 1 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Due to the delays, there were two Euphoria specials in between seasons 1 and 2. Nothing has been confirmed but it's possible that we'll also get some special episodes in 2023.

Eric Dane has also told Variety that he thinks they will start filming season 3 in November this year. He said: "I just saw something that said 2024, which kind of makes sense. I mean, we’ll go back and shoot maybe in November."

Who is in the Euphoria season 3 cast?

Based on how Euphoria season 2 ended, we imagine that all the main cast will be back for more. In other words, expect to see Zendaya (Rue), Hunter Schafer (Jules), Jacob Elordi (Nate), Alexa Demie (Maddy), Angus Cloud (Fez), Sydney Sweeney (Cassie) and Maude Apatow (Lexi) all return.

That being said, fans are concerned that Alexa Demie is leaving the show after Maddy quit her job as Theo's babysitter in season 2, episode 7 and told Samantha that she wasn't gonna stay in East Highland for the rest of her life.

Barbie Ferreira (Kat) has also officially left the show. In an Instagram story in August 2022, Barbie wrote: "After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I'm having to say a very teary eyed goodbye. I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez".

As for the supporting cast, we imagine that many of them will return in season 3, as well as some brand new characters. In a February 2022 interview with Jimmy Fallon, Dominic Fike confirmed that he will be back as Elliot.

In the final, it looks as though Ashtray (Javon Walton) has been shot dead. However, Javon recently told Esquire: "I just hope he's alive" and that he wants "Ash and Fez to reunite". In other words, Javon could still return.

Elsewhere, Squid Game star HoYeon Jung has told Entertainment Tonight that she would "love" to star in Euphoria season 3.

Will Zendaya be in Euphoria season 3?

Fans worried that Rue would die in season 2 were pleasantly surprised to see her survive. Ahead of the finale airing, Zendaya told The Cut that Rue's story would end on a hopeful note. She explained: "Episode 8 is where we’ll get that sense of redemption. I think Rue deserves it, and I think anyone who suffers with the same thing she does deserves it."

HBO boss Casey Bloys confirmed that Zendaya will be back at WarnerMedia's 2022 investor day. According to TVLine, Casey said: "She's going to be in season 3".

What will happen in Euphoria season 3?

At the moment, the Euphoria cast and crew haven't revealed anything concrete about what will happen in season 3. It looks as though Fez will be going to prison though and that will likely affect all of the characters.

Chloe Cherry recently told Variety that she'd love Rue and Faye to have more scenes together in season 3: "I think Faye has a story of addiction to tell as Rue does; even though it’s different, I think that they could learn something from each other. I also think Rue is a non-judgmental character, and I think that is all Faye needs. I think if they got closer, they would get along because they have these shared experiences and they are both chill girls in spite of it."

Meanwhile, Maude Apatow told Entertainment Weekly that she hopes to explore Fez and Lexi's romance further in season 3. She said: "I love working with Angus. I think Angus is such a great actor, and we just have so much fun working together. So for selfish reasons, I hope we get to do more scenes together because it's fun. He's just a great partner. He's so present and talented, and yeah, I just love working with him, so I totally would love to keep working with him."

Speaking to Variety about Cal's storyline going forward, Eric Dane said: "There’s gonna be redemption. I mean, that’s the trajectory he’s on. I can’t imagine Cal’s life from solitary confinement. It’s tough to work Cal into the storyline when he’s behind bars."

Elsewhere, given that Rue appears to be in a sober healthy place, we hope that she stays there. However, she still owes Laurie money, so anything could happen in season 3.
