John Carroll Lynch previously starred in American Horror Story: Freak Show as Twisty the clown.

American Horror Story: 1984 kicked off last night (Sep 18) and everyone is talking about the show's serial killer Mr. Jingles.

Every season of AHS has its fair share of terrifying villains. Over the course of nine seasons, we've met psychotic kidnappers (Dr. Oliver Thredson in Asylum), racist torturers (Delphine LaLaurie in Coven), powerful cult leaders (Kai Anderson in Cult) and the literal antichrist (Michael Langdon in Apocalypse). Each season, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk find brand new ways to terrify us and honestly they never let us down. The Polk family (yes the cannibals) from Roanoake still give us nightmares.

AHS: 1984 is no different. American Horror Story season 9 introduces us to Mr. Jingles played by John Carroll Lynch.

John Carroll Lynch is most famous for playing roles including Norm Gunderson in Fargo and Steve Carey in The Drew Carey Show but he's no stranger to AHS. The actor previously played Twisty the clown in Freakshow. Mr. Jingles appears to be a completely different villain (although knowing AHS, there is a chance that they could be related in some kind of way) and he's terrifying.

In the first episode of 1984, Camp Redwood, we find out that Mr. Jingles (Benjamin Richter) was a Vietnam War vet famous for cutting off the ears of the people he killed and keeping them on a necklace like a trophy. Following the war, he was sent to Camp Redwood to rehabilitate but one night in 1970, he went on a murderous rampage and slaughtered a cabin of teenagers.

He was later caught and sent to a mental institute. Cut to 1984 and he fakes his own death in his cell, kills the person who finds him and escapes to return to Camp Redwood and presumably murder the camp owner who escaped him in 1970 (Magarete Booth played by Leslie Grossman) along with anyone else who gets in his way.

In episode one, he has two new victims (a hiker and a mechanic) but he almost murdered Brooke (Emma Roberts), a camp counsellor, as well. Unfortunately, the rest of the camp don't see him and they quickly persuade Brooke that she's just imagining things but it looks like he will kill more victims before he's captured again.

Mr. Jingles isn't the only villain though. There's also new villain The Night Stalker who Brooke successfully managed to escape in episode one as well. It remains to be seen if they're linked but we'll update you as soon as we know more.

What do you think of Mr. Jingles?
