AHS: 1984 just created a huge timeline plot hole with Richard Ramirez

Richard Ramirez's storyline in the season finale doesn't match up with his appearance in AHS: Hotel.

Well, that's it. American Horror Story is over for another year. As always, we've been left with plenty of unanswered questions, theories and an undying thirst for more. But this season, AHS left us with one more gift... another very very very big plot hole.

Alongside Leslie Grossman's turn as Margaret Booth and the addition of Angelica Ross to the cast, another one of AHS: 1984's highlights has been watching Zach Villa's performance as Richard Ramirez a.k.a. the Night Stalker.

At the beginning of the season, fans were hyped to see the return of one of the infamous serial killers that attended James March's Devil's Night banquet in AHS: Hotel. But following the season finale, it looks like his storyline has now created a massive plot hole in the series.

In Hotel, it's stated that Ramirez died in prison in 2013 (which is also true of the real life Richard Ramirez). That scene takes place 3 years after he died, as he says it's his 3rd Devil's Night. He's also present at Devil's Night in 2022 when Billie Dean Howard arrives for her TV special.

However, in 1984, Ramirez was still stuck at Camp Redwood in 2019 and had been placed on 'death watch' by the camp ghosts for 30 years. Due to his deal with Satan, he wasn't technically dead dead. Every time he was 'killed', he returned as flesh and bone so his ghost would not have been able to attend Devil's Night.

So, what's the truth? Is it a plot hole, or have we just experienced one of the first confusing timeline alterations as a result of Mallory's actions in Apocalypse?

To make sense of the plot hole, fans are speculating that this could all be explained away thanks to the new timeline that Mallory created. While Michael Langdon's death in 2015 may not have had direct consequences for most of the post-2015 events in the AHS-verse, it could have created a butterfly effect.

Mallory's failed attempt to save Anastasia even further back in time could have also created a butterfly effect, changing the course of events in Ramirez's life.

Basically, there could now be two versions of Ramirez. One in the original timeline who ends up meeting James March and going to Hotel Cortez and one in the altered timeline who ends up at Camp Redwood.

Or, you know, maybe it's a completely different timeline all together. Maybe all rules are out the window when Satan is involved. Maybe Ryan Murphy really said FUCK your timeline!
